New “Maybach” with broken VIN put up for sale in the USA – Motor

The auction listing fails to clarify the cause of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS‘s damaged vehicle identification number (VIN). The vehicle was likely purloined, its VIN altered by the perpetrators before its recovery. It’s presumed the insurer elected to liquidate the asset via Copart.

A comparable “Maybach” commands roughly $190,000 on a dealership lot. However, due to the compromised VIN, this SUV is anticipated to fetch at least half its retail value at auction. A potential buyer might attempt VIN restoration, aided by Copart’s documentation detailing the vehicle’s checkered past. Alternatively, and perhaps more probably, it will be exported for resale at market rates abroad.

Mechanically sound, the SUV boasts a potent 557-horsepower (730 Nm), 4.0-liter V8 petrol engine, air suspension, all-wheel drive, and a luxurious four-seat cabin. Given that base US pricing starts at $160,000, this Mercedes-Maybach GLS is exceptionally well-appointed.
