New mandatory requirement for immigrant visas comes into force in Havana

As of today, the United States Embassy in Havana has officially implemented a new mandatory requirement for all immigrant visa applicants.

From this date, all petitioners must go through a Document Review prior to the visa interview, in order to guarantee that the files are complete and in order before appearing before the consular officer.

This new step, which was already announced at the beginning of the month. It aims to streamline the visa process and avoid setbacks during interviews, allowing applicants a more fluid and efficient experience.

The Document Review seeks to identify possible errors or lack of documentation before the interview, which will help minimize delays in the delivery of visas.

Applicants must schedule their review appointment at least one week before their scheduled interview date.

This appointment can be requested via email [email protected]with the subject A88 Document Review, or by calling the number 7839 4152, Monday to Friday, between 9:00 am and 11:00 am It is important that applicants complete this step, since those who do not carry out the review prior they will not be able to proceed to their interview.

The change in procedure has been received with optimism by various sectors of the immigrant community in Cuba.

In particular, the new measure is expected to help reduce wait times for those applying for visas under the Family Reunification Program (CFRP), as well as other immigration categories that have faced significant delays.

Backlogged cases, some since the temporary closure of the embassy in 2017, could benefit from this new system by ensuring documents are complete before the interview.

Consular authorities have explained that this step is part of a broader effort to modernize and optimize the visa process, improving efficiency and reducing the number of incomplete applications that must be reviewed multiple times.
