Kentucky Students Gain Access to a Treasure Trove of Online Books
Kentucky students from kindergarten through high school now have access to a vast digital library thanks to a new free online resource called TeachingBooks. Launched with the support of First Lady Britainy Beshear, TeachingBooks provides an engaging and interactive platform that aims to foster a love of reading in young minds. “Reading to children, either in the classroom or in our public libraries, is one of my favorite things to do,” said Beshear. “I’ve learned that teachers, librarians, and families are always looking for ways to bring stories to life for their kids. That’s exactly what TeachingBooks is all about.” TeachingBooks is designed to go beyond simply providing access to books. It offers a wealth of supplementary materials designed to enhance the reading experience. Students can delve deeper into their favorite stories through discussion guides, audiobook performances, video book trailers, and even interactive activities like word searches and jigsaw puzzles. “We want to instill a love of reading in every Kentucky student by helping them find meaningful connections to books,” said teachingbooks Founder Nick Glass. “We want students to know these resources are available to them 24/7, whether they’re in the classroom, library, or at home.” The platform boasts an extraordinary collection of over 376,000 resources linked to approximately 100,000 books for children and young adults. It also features author name pronunciation recordings from over 3,000 authors, allowing students to hear the creators of their favorite books pronounce their names. teachers, parents, and students can access TeachingBooks for free at TeachingBooks.net. Public libraries interested in setting up customized access for their patrons can visit TeachingBooks.net/KYSetup.
