Since the beginning of September, verified environmental product declarations (EPDs) for 7 product areas and 19 industry product EPDs have been available for download on www.bau-epd.at and www.voeb.com. Based on uniform building material data, buildings can now be made from high-quality precast concrete products be planned, constructed and operated in a more climate-friendly and resource-efficient manner.
The aim of environmental product declarations (EPDs) is to provide transparent, verified and comparable information about the environmental impact of products and services throughout their life cycle. In order to be able to document the sustainability and environmental compatibility of high-quality precast concrete products in the form of neutral and objective data, we have been in place since September 7 product area EPDs and 19 industry product EPDs available online to all planners, architects, builders and those responsible for life cycle assessment. “The environmental product declarations created in close cooperation with Prof. Florian Gschösser and verified by the Austrian BauEPD GmbH create a uniform basis for the creation of life cycle assessments in the construction sector – with consistent and therefore comparable building material data, which can also be used in building assessment systems,” emphasizes VÖB managing director Anton Glasmaier.
The database for the sustainability assessment comes from Austrian precast concrete factories, which are also VÖB member companies. Verified EPDs with a validity of five years are now available Constructive prefabricated parts for building construction and infrastructure, flat semi-finished parts, hollow floorboards, paving stones and slabs, pipes and shafts, wooden jacket concrete blocks and slabs as well as for wall blocks and formwork blocks before. The current environmental product declarations for all VÖB product areas as well as the verified life cycle assessment data for the individual products can be downloaded free of charge at www.voeb.com/nachhaltigkeit/umwelt-produktdeklaration.asp can be downloaded as an e-book or in PDF format.
About the VÖB
The Association of Austrian Precast Concrete Plants (VÖB) is the central representation of the interests of Austrian precast concrete manufacturers. The association, founded in 1956, represents around 70 member companies – and thus the majority of all precast concrete factories producing in Austria. The VÖB was founded according to Austrian association law, is a voluntary interest group and sees itself as an innovative and open-minded business association. The precast concrete industry is an important area of the Austrian construction industry. With its high-quality products from domestic value creation, the industry stands for performance, quality thinking, resource-saving production and qualitative growth. In this way, the Austrian precast concrete factories make a significant contribution to future-proof and sustainable construction. More information at www.voeb.com and in the VÖB Beton blog

What specific types of precast concrete products are covered by the newly launched EPDs, and how do they align with industry standards in environmental impact assessment?
**Interview with Anton Glasmaier, Managing Director of VÖB**
**Interviewer:** Good afternoon, Anton. Thank you for joining us today to discuss the recent launch of environmental product declarations (EPDs) for precast concrete products. Can you start by explaining what EPDs are and why they are important for the construction industry?
**Anton Glasmaier:** Good afternoon, and thank you for having me. Environmental Product Declarations, or EPDs, provide transparent, verified, and comparable information regarding the environmental impact of products throughout their life cycles. This is crucial for the construction industry as it allows architects, builders, and planners to make informed decisions that promote sustainability and resource efficiency. With the launch of our recent EPDs, we now have standardized data that enables a more climate-friendly approach to building with precast concrete.
**Interviewer:** That sounds significant. You mentioned that 7 product area EPDs and 19 industry-specific EPDs are now available. Could you elaborate on what kinds of products these EPDs cover?
**Anton Glasmaier:** Certainly! The EPDs cover various precast concrete products, including constructive prefabricated parts for buildings and infrastructure, flat semi-finished parts, hollow floorboards, paving stones, slabs, and pipes. This comprehensive range allows us to address multiple aspects of construction in a uniform manner, ensuring that all data is consistent and comparable.
**Interviewer:** How do these EPDs help in the life cycle assessment process, and who will benefit from this information?
**Anton Glasmaier:** The EPDs create a uniform basis for life cycle assessments in construction, which is essential for evaluating the environmental impact of building materials. This information is beneficial not only for architects and builders but also for anyone involved in planning and executing construction projects. It allows for better decision-making aligned with sustainability goals, as it provides the necessary data to assess the environmental compatibility of the materials used.
**Interviewer:** You mentioned that these declarations were developed in collaboration with Prof. Florian Gschösser and verified by the Austrian BauEPD GmbH. How important is this collaboration for the credibility of the EPDs?
**Anton Glasmaier:** It is absolutely crucial. Collaboration with experts like Prof. Gschösser ensures that the EPDs are developed based on rigorous scientific principles and industry standards. Verification by the Austrian BauEPD GmbH further strengthens the credibility of these declarations, assuring all stakeholders that the data provided is accurate and reliable. This not only fosters trust in the EPDs but also enhances their usability in various building assessment systems.
**Interviewer:** Lastly, Anton, where can professionals in the industry access these EPDs?
**Anton Glasmaier:** The EPDs are available for download at [www.bau-epd.at](http://www.bau-epd.at) and [www.voeb.com](http://www.voeb.com). We encourage all planners, architects, and builders to utilize these resources to aid in their projects aimed at sustainability and efficiency.
**Interviewer:** Thank you for your insights today, Anton. It’s clear that these EPDs represent a significant step forward in promoting sustainable practices in construction.
**Anton Glasmaier:** Thank you for having me. I’m excited to see how these declarations will influence the future of our industry.
