Donald Trump continues to expand his control over the Republicans. His daughter-in-law Lara Trump and a hardcore election denier now sit in the leadership of the Republican National Committee.

EIt’s not new that Republicans jump when Donald Trump comes calling. That was also the case at the spring meeting of the Republican party organization RNC on Friday. A few weeks ago, Trump announced that the Republican National Committee needed new leadership. At the time, he included his wish list: a hardcore election denier from North Carolina, his daughter-in-law Lara Trump and two of his top campaign strategists. Three weeks later, the RNC fulfilled Trump’s wishes at the meeting in Houston.

Ronna McDaniel, the current chairwoman of the RNC, tried to make her sudden departure following seven years and four re-elections seem undramatic. Actually, her term would not have ended until 2025. But it is common for the party organization to change with a new presidential candidate, she said of her resignation. “President Trump deserves to have the team of his choice, including the RNC.” Trump will not be officially confirmed until the nomination convention in July. According to his campaign team, he has long wanted to access the resources by then. In the eight months until the election, the RNC will work hand in hand with Trump’s campaign, new chairman Michael Whatley said Friday.
