New Jersey is one of the most educated states in the nation, the latest Census data shows.
New Jersey ranks eighth in the U.S. for residents with college degrees. More than half of New Jersey’s residents have an associates degree or higher, according to the Census.
Washington, D.C. tops the most educated list with 68.7% of its residents having at least an associates degree. Washington also holds the number one spot for most residents with graduate or professional degrees.
Colorado ranks the highest among the 50 U.S. states for residents with at least an associates degree.
New Jersey residents who start college tend to finish, the Census data shows. Just 15.2% of residents reported having some college education but no degree, the fourth lowest in the nation.
New Jersey also has one of the lowest rates of residents who stop school following receiving an associate’s degree. Only 6.7% of residents claim an associate’s as their highest level of education. Washington, D.C., is the only place that has a lower amount, at 3.3%.
New Jersey is home to 27 four-year, non-profit colleges, including Princeton, Rutgers, and nine other schools among the nation’s top 100, according to U.S. News and World Report.
