More than 400 riders will arrive from all over Chile who want to enjoy it,” said Mariño, who is betting that Chillán, with this new infrastructure, will once again become the capital of national bike cross.

“We are the largest bike cross club in Chile, with the largest number of riders on each date of the nationals. This comes to do justice to what we have. If with the small track that we used as an alternative we achieved results, with this, the idea is to fight for international championships,” he concluded.

Municipal seedbed

The mayor of Chillán, Camilo Benavente, highlighted that the seedbed of the Municipal Bicicross School will be enhanced with this international level track.

We have a municipal bike cross school with kids who are already giving results. What there has to be here is a sporting transversality. In the future, Chillán has to be the bicycle city, where we have this infrastructure, we have everything that is downhill in the mountain sector, we are making every effort in the route and I have no doubt that, in the next In years Chillán will have a special condition for cycling and we hope that this will be consolidated with a great participation.”

The new BMX track at the Quilamapu Sports Complex involved an investment of $1,591,342,000, resources contributed by the National Sports Institute (IND), the Municipality of Chillán and the Regional Government of Ñuble. The project included a 360-meter-long dirt and asphalt circuit and two starters, one of five meters for local competitions and another of eight meters for international events. Perimeter closure, stands for 250 people, landscaping, underground electrical wiring and universal accessibility.
