New increases in cheap drugs patients are expected to see in the next period, as the leadership of the Ministry of Health gave the green light for repricing in cheap formulations which are widely distributed in the Greek market.
These are medicines that cost up to 5 euros and which will receive small increases so that they do not disappear from the shelves of pharmacies. The reasoning of the leadership of the Ministry of Health and Minister Adonis Georgiadis is that the increases will combat the shortages recorded in the specific cheap drugs, since many companies are withdrawing them as their availability is not considered profitable.
The reasoning of the leadership of the Ministry of Health and Minister Adonis Georgiadis is that the increases will combat the shortages recorded in the specific cheap drugssince many companies withdraw them as their disposal is not considered advantageous.
Already the EOF has made the relevant preparations so that the increases are given to medicines whose companies have requested their repricing, while the necessary arrangements have been made with the pharmaceutical companies.
In the coming days, the increases are expected to be seen, but they will not be large, as the change concerns medicines that cost up to 5 euros.
The plan to be followed by the Ministry of Health
However, based on the temporary President of the EOF, Evangelos Manolopoulos, when there are shortages of such cheap preparations which are withdrawn, the Organization is forced to supply them with imports from the IFET at much higher prices.
The Ministry of Health has set three basic criteria for medicines whose price can be increased.
Particularly:
- They should be old unique drugs with low prices, especially if they cost up to 5 euros or their price is a large deviation from the average of the 2 lowest.
- They should hold a large market share covering a large proportion of patients
- There is a serious risk of their withdrawal from the market due to low prices
It is noteworthy that the specific price increases were supposed to be given from last summer, but due to the elections they were avoided so that there would be no reactions just before the polls, according to government sources.
