New identity card with chip is already in pilot test

Once everything is defined, it will be presented to the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, for his approval.

In an interview for the news agency Venezuela News, the general director of the Administrative Service for Identification, Migration and Immigration (Saime), Gustavo Vizcaíno, reported that Venezuela is preparing for an important technological adaptation of its citizenship identification system, with the creation of a new electronic identity card with a QR code.

Vizcaíno stressed that this project is in the pilot phase, and that once everything is defined, it will be presented to the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, for his approval.

«We are working to have a digital card, with first-class functionalities, that allows us to see what blood factor you are. At the time of an accident, know who to call or locate a family member. This is going to have a chip and a QR code. We already have a technical team working to achieve, sooner rather than later, that Venezuela can have an electronic ID,” Vizcaíno said.
