New identities: Countdown to the Personal Number
 – 2024-07-20 11:35:04

The “key” to the new identities is expected to be the Personal Number, since it will be the element for the verification of natural persons who deal with public sector bodies and will be issued compulsorily to anyone who has a Tax Identification Number (TIN) or Social Security Number (AMKA). Before issuing a new identity card, citizens should obtain the Personal Number through the new myinfo digital platform on Gov.gr.

The citizen’s Personal Number will be the VAT number plus three additional elements, one letter and two numbers, which the citizen will choose on the special myinfo platform.

The citizen will initially enter the myinfo platform to configure his unique Personal Number, which will consist of a letter of the alphabet that should also be available in the Latin language (i.e. K, M, N, O etc. , but not Ψ, Θ, Ω, etc.), from two numerical digits and from his entire Tax Registration Number (TIN).

Specifically, the citizen will select two of the three additional alphanumeric elements that will be added to his personal number (the letter and a number), while the myinfo platform will select the third element (a number). The entire personal number will now be stored on the new IDs.

Changes to the appointments for the new IDs

It is noted that alongside the new identities, the Ministry of Digital Governance in collaboration with the Ministry of Citizen Protection are creating a new way of authentication that is much stronger, providing the opportunity to citizens who wish to obtain new strong codes (those who wish will be able to keep the old ones codes), in order to enter Taxinet, Gov.gr and other digital platforms with greater security.
