After the final count of the municipal elections, Nuevas Ideas won the mayoralty of San Salvador Este, obtaining the majority of the votes, surpassing the opposition parties by a large margin.

Mayor Chicas has served as councilor for Ilopango, where his administration has promoted public development policies and strategies, through sports and tourism.
Now, the municipality of San Salvador Este is made up of Ilopango, San Martín, Soyapango and Tonacatepeque.
