Will a major hotel project see the light of day near the ING building on Route de Neufchâteau in Bastogne? On Thursday, the promoters, the Liège group Ardent Real Estate, organized a presentation meeting for local residents in which around fifty people took part. This project should see the light of day in the place of the old travel agency of Colnet and leave in L to join the road of Assenois.
The first part of the project presented consists of a four-star hotel with 83 rooms. The purpose of this establishment would be to attract tourists, but also a business clientele.
The second part would be the creation of a residence of around thirty apartments which would rise from the ground at the route d’Assenois.
In a press release, the promoters indicate that this project “has been designed to fit harmoniously into its environment while avoiding harm to it. By way of illustration, the hotel voluntarily deprives itself of a restaurant in order to avoid entering into direct competition with existing Horeca establishments. What’s more, the direct proximity (200 meters) of this complex to the city center will allow both tourists and residents to easily take advantage of local services and local shops.“
Faced with this presentation, different opinions were expressed by local residents, particularly in terms of sunshine, greenery, car parks .
Benoît Lutgen: “We are delighted with such an investment”
“We had requested this meeting which is organized ahead of the public inquiry and is not mandatory, says Mayor Benoît Lutgen. Various elements must be reviewed with direct meetings with certain local residents. We had already had prior requests. We are delighted with such an investment which further demonstrates the attractiveness of our city, but this project needs to be adjusted. Hoteliers present at the meeting did not see this project with a bad eye. We still intend to ask for other elements such as a connection between the Neufchâteau and Assenois road for pedestrians, security facilities on the Assenois road at the promoter’s expense, cameras to secure the premises.
A file which is therefore only in its infancy and which should no doubt still come back to citizens for the different stages of its development.
