BULOG North Sumatra Regional Office (Kanwil) stated that the government’s determination of the new highest retail price (HET) for MinyaKita cooking oil has the potential to facilitate the production and distribution of this commodity to the market.
“That’s because producers and traders now have certainty about new prices,” said the Head of the North Sumatra Regional Office of Perum Bulog, Arif Mandu in Medan, as reported by Antara.
Arif suspects that the limited supply of MinyaKita in the market recently is partly due to the HET not yet increasing.
Bulog North Sumatra, he continued, has problems in storing MinyaKita stocks.
“It could be because of that (supply is being held back waiting for the new HET), it could also be due to other factors,” said Arif.
Arif’s prediction is in accordance with what was conveyed by the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) Regional Office I.

KPPU also suspects that MinyaKita producers and distributors in North Sumatra are waiting for confirmation of the new HET for this commodity from the government before releasing the subsidized cooking oil in normal quantities.
KPPU assessed that this situation has caused the quantity of MinyaKita to decrease in the North Sumatra market, as happened in Medan.
Producers and distributors, said Head of KPPU Regional Office I Ridho Pamungkas, are waiting for the momentum of the increase in HET to issue MinyaKita.

“It seems like producers are holding back production and distributors are waiting to release Minyakita,” said Ridho.
On Friday (19/7), Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan said the latest HET for people’s cooking oil or MinyaKita of IDR 15,700 per liter would be enacted next week.
The previous HET for MinyaKita was Rp14 thousand per liter. (Ant/Z-7)
