The health landscape in France is preparing to undergo significant transformations with the review of the health budget which took place last December. These adjustments promise significant developments in several areas, ranging from care management, to the distribution of medicines, including the well-being of young people. here are the major changes in the healthcare sector in 2024.
Support and reimbursements
In 2024 new support measures are effective from January 1st. Due to the development of remote consultations following the health crisis, the government had to revise the conditions of teleconsultations. As part of a work stoppage delivered remotely, the patient is given a break of up to 3 days. Beyond this or for any renewal of the arrest, a physical examination will be necessary. However, this measure does not apply to assigned attending physicians or to people unable to travel.
On the figures side, some compensation is increased following the increase in the minimum wage:
The shutdown period is increased to €52.28 instead of €51.70 gross. Maternity benefits increase from €95.22 per day to €100.36. Please note that the waiting days are waived in the event of a miscarriage. The disability pension increased from €311.56 to €328.07, an increase of 5.3%. The AJPA and AJPA increase from €62.44 to €64.40. Self-employed workers will also be able to benefit from compensation of €63.52 per day for craftsmen and traders and €1,190.55 subsidy for liberal professions.
The other important measure of 2024 concerns the 100% coverage of preventive assessments. This can be carried out by a healthcare professional: doctors, nurses, midwives and pharmacists. The Preventive Health Examination (PHE) should be carried out during the key age groups: 18-25 years, 45-50 years, 60-65 years and 70-75 years. This project aims to raise public awareness of the risks of illnesses that may occur according to established age categories.

New measures for medicines
The assembly questioned the conditions of drug distribution. From now on, pharmacies can distribute medications individually depending on the risk of shortage. This model is widely implemented in other countries such as the United States and Canada, it also helps limit waste.
The shortage of medicines is a problem that persists, particularly during epidemic peaks. This reflection allows each individual to benefit from the exact quantity of prescribed medications.
The new health measures for the year 2024 also provide for the allocation of certain antibiotics without a prescription. This measure mainly concerns the most common conditions such as angina or urinary tract. The tablets can be dispensed individually by pharmacies following a Rapid Diagnostic Orientation Test (TROD). It will help protect patients from possible antibiotic resistance and make the appropriate diagnosis.

Well-being and prevention: initiatives for young people
Two new measures for young people have been in place since January 1, 2023. They contribute to the prevention of sexually transmitted infections and the risks associated with sexual activity. These provisions also allow simplified access to hygienic protection for young girls.
Condoms are now free for young people. Condoms distributed in pharmacies will be fully reimbursed for people under 26 years old upon presentation of the Vitale card. Minors can simply present their identity card. Reusable periodic protection is partially reimbursed by Social Security. The measure applies to menstrual panties and cups validated by the National Health Safety Agency (ANSES). To receive a 60% reimbursement, you must be under 26 years old or benefit from complementary solidarity health insurance.
