New General Administrator Takes the Helm at Forem: Challenges and Action Plan Ahead

A page is turning at Forem. Marie-Kristine Vanbockestal is leaving, following 11 years at the head of the Walloon Office for Vocational Training and Employment. She is replaced on December 1 by a new General Administrator: Raymonde Yerna. Like the one she succeeds, Raymonde Yerna is from Liège, she is labeled PS, and she is an employment specialist.

After various positions held at Forem (already) and in several socialist cabinets, for 2 years she has been the boss of IFAPME, the Walloon Institute for Work-Study Training. And the regional government has now chosen her to take the helm of the Forem, a huge liner with nearly 4,900 workers and whose budget is around 2 and a half billion euros.

The stakes are just as enormous, in a region where the employment rate is struggling to take off and which had more than 227,000 unemployed job seekers at the end of October. Among the main challenges: activating the long-term unemployed.

But a few weeks ago, during a meeting with the management of Forem, it was especially on young people and on professions in shortage that the regional government called for urgent action. A specific action plan has therefore just been launched, intended to “matcher“more the demands of some and the offers of others.

This plan initiated by the outgoing boss of Forem will be managed by the new general administrator. Raymonde Yerna will already have to present first results before the summer, that is to say before the elections.
