After Qatar in 2022, the World Cup will experience a new format from 2026 since 48 countries will qualify. To accommodate all these additional teams, the tournament will take place in three different countries: Mexico, Canada and the United States.

This Wednesday, FIFA announced what is planned for the next edition. Spain, Portugal and Morocco were finally chosen. Moreover, this World Cup will be even more special since a third continent will be used. Indeed, this edition will mark the centenary of the tournament. In 1930, Uruguay organized (and won) the first edition. To celebrate the event, the South American country wanted to partner with Argentina, Paraguay and Chile to host the global event. Finally, the first three countries mentioned (without Chile) will have the honor of hosting the first three matches of the tournament and will therefore be able to play their first match at home before going to Europe and Morocco.

In his communiqué, FIFA also specified that the 2034 edition would take place in Asia or Oceania and invited interested countries to propose their candidacy. Interested in the 2030 edition before withdrawing, Saudi Arabia might well get involved.
