New FIFA Offside Law: Testing and Impending Changes in Football Matches and Tournaments

2023-07-01 20:56:15

Sports Observatory: The International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) officially agreed, today, Saturday, to test the new offside law, before fully applying it in all matches and tournaments.

The new offside law stipulates that the attacker must be ahead of his entire body over the last defender to be in an offside position, and not just with part of his body, as is the case at the present time.

FIFA added that the new law will be tested in some matches in Sweden, the Netherlands and Italy before applying it in all tournaments, if successful.

It was Arsene Wenger, the historic coach of the “Arsenal” team and Chairman of the Development Committee of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) who proposed the application of the new offside rule.
