The cultural region of Semmering will be enriched by a contribution: In June, the “moz art” festival will start in Gloggnitz. Under the artistic direction of Johannes Kropfitsch, a total of 45 events with around 12,000 tickets are planned over the course of 2022, as announced on Thursday. The name of the festival says it all.
“All program items have a Mozart reference, contemporary pieces have space as well as classical interpretations,” Kropfitsch explained his concept, which includes classical, jazz and folk music. In addition to the Gloggnitz school centre, the castle, the town hall and the Christkönigskirche are available as venues. However, smaller rooms such as the Renner Museum are also to be used.
It will open on June 11th with the Berliner Symphoniker. Open-air concerts follow on the summer stage of Gloggnitz Castle, with Andy Lee Lang, the vocal ensemble Kärnten and the Mojo Blues Band, among others. The Savaria Symphony Orchestra, the Hungarian State Orchestra Szolnok and the Györ Philharmonic Orchestra also feature pianist Kristina Miller. In autumn, the pianist Yuko Batik and the organists Peter Tiefengraber and Wolfgang Capek, among others, will give concerts. “Rising Stars” such as the 15-year-old pianist Julian Schlosser will also be heard.
“Cultural-tourist reorientation” by Gloggnitz
Mayor Irene Gölles (“We for Gloggnitz”) says regarding the costs, which will be in the “mid-six-figure” range: “We can do the majority with private-sector initiatives, ticket sales, support from the state of Lower Austria and the city’s culture budget finance.”
For Gölles, the festival is part of a “cultural-tourist reorientation” of the city, which was also confirmed by a unanimous municipal council decision. However, the organizers in Gloggnitz do not want “celebrity hype” – instead they focus on sustainability. According to Kropfitsch, the “moz art” festival should be a “green event”.
