A new festival that aims to differentiate itself from other events of this kind got off to a relaxed start in Linz on Friday: the German musician Danger Dan, also known as part of the Antilopen Gang, opened the Lido Sounds, which offers a stylistically diverse program over three days. Today Florence + The Machine close the dance as headliners on the main stage. According to the police, the arrival was “very disciplined”, many had come by public transport.

“We wanted to do something urban in a metropolitan area and offer a certain quality standard with the line-up,” said Filip Potocki, managing director of the organizer Arcadia Live, in the run-up to the three-day event, to the APA. He was “very convinced” of the program, it was regarding the dramaturgy. Numerous red-white-red acts were deliberately committed and “deliberately” looked at the women’s quota.

25,000 visitors are expected per day, who also came on Friday, it said. According to Potocki, the Lido Sounds is not really a festival in the traditional sense, it is aimed more at day visitors, who make up regarding 80 percent of the audience. “We don’t have a campsite, it’s relatively easy to get to and from Vienna, the area is paved. But of course we’re happy if people stay every three days.”

A felled tree on the site caused a stir. “Contrary to the express ban of the city of Linz, a tree was beheaded at the event site,” complained Green City Councilor Eva Schobesberger. “It’s so outrageous how irresponsibly the trees on the event site are being treated.” The organizer spoke of “an accident”. In a broadcast it said: “It was discussed with the city of Linz that we should be able to prune the tree a little. So that visitors from the audience area have a better view of their favorite bands. Due to miscommunication – pruning instead of cutting – is the unfortunate incident occurred.” You take the “human error of course on our cap”.

The arrival was very disciplined, there was a certain waiting time at lunchtime at the entrance. “The organizers organized it perfectly,” praised police spokesman David Furtner. The police work transparently in an integrated management staff with the Arbeitersamariterbund, organizers and Linz Linien and are on duty every day during the festival with 150 police officers. The area was checked with police dogs, but no dangerous objects were found.

Robert F. from Judendorf was the first visitor to enter the area. “I think it’s great to visit a festival in a new place. The fact that I’m greeted with soap bubbles and the smell of Bosna increases my anticipation of the colorful programme.”

Danger Dan presented himself on the “Main Stage” as a singer-songwriter on the piano, then also with string quartet accompaniment, and not as part of a rap formation. This was an unusual but very effective opening of a festival in the sunshine. The organizer deliberately chose that he should start: “The values sung regarding in his songs coincide with our philosophy and what we stand for: We as Arcadia Live think and act 100 percent anti-racist, anti-fascist and position ourselves clearly once morest Homophobia, sexism and discrimination of all kinds,” it said. Danger Dan sang regarding the beating up of sex tourists in Bangkok, regarding his school days (recommendation: “be rebellious!”) and included the lyric “Karl Lueger was an anti-Semite” in his song regarding fascists.

On the second stage, the “Ahoi! Pop Summer Stage”, local shooting star Lou Asril started things off. He filled the covered stage very well within minutes – but both the fans in front and behind still had plenty of room to dance and swing along. “Thank you for letting us open the stage, Lido Sounds”, the Lower Austrian welcomed the audience and spread a good mood with his feel-good pop. Interpol were scheduled as the final act in the covered oval on Friday. You can continue celebrating at the following-show party with DJs in the Brucknerhaus.
