New fear and anxiety .. The discovery of a bacteria in the Chinese “Wuhan” that causes disease

Agencies:

The discovery of a bacterium in the Chinese city of Wuhan that caused a student to contract cholera and was found separately in samples of soft-packed turtles in a food market has alarmed the Chinese, with some linking it to Covid-19.

Late yesterday, Thursday, local authorities said that the food market had been disinfected, as samples of soft turtles were found to contain a cholera-causing germ.

Although no human cases of cholera were detected among those who had contact with soft turtles, the authorities ordered the closure of the section that sells them in the market for a period of 3 days.

The authorities indicated that there was no link between the strain of bacteria that caused cholera in the aforementioned student and the samples discovered in the food market.

The disease control authority in Wuhan’s Hongshan District said officials are also tracing unspecified products from the same shipment of soft turtles that were transported elsewhere.

Although there are no strong indications of an outbreak of cholera, internet users’ concern regarding another outbreak has put it among the most popular topics on the Chinese social networking site Weibo.

And the city of Wuhan, which has a population of more than 12 million, said last Monday that a university student infected with cholera had not caused more infections.
