Octavia Spencer has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The 52-year-old actress was accompanied by several of her co-stars when she received the tribute in Los Angeles on Thursday (08.12.22).
Her ‘Spirited’ co-star Will Ferrell and her ‘The Help’ costars Viola Davis and Allison Janney were among those who shared the special moment with the star.
Octavia hailed “the culmination of my realized dreams” following “a healthy dose of failures and rejections”.
During her speech, she said, “To be forever cemented in the mythology of this city and the film industry is an incredible honor.
“It took me a minute to realize what was happening to me, the culmination of my dreams realized, my work rewarded following a fair and healthy amount of failures and rejections.”
In addition to facing rejection, Octavia Spencer has fought for pay parity in Hollywood.
In 2019, the star revealed that LeBron James helped her get the paycheck she deserved for ‘Madam CJ Walker’.
The ‘Hidden Figures’ star shared how the LA Lakers basketball star made sure his paycheck for the Netflix series, which tells the story of America’s first self-made black millionaire, was the same as that of his male counterpart.
Octavia shared, “I have to say when I was negotiating my contract for ‘Madam CJ’, LeBron James had to step in. So we need all of our male counterparts to fight with us.”
LeBron, 37, served as executive producer on the project.
And Octavia insisted it’s important to be open and honest regarding salaries in order to address the current imbalance between male and female stars.
She told IndieWire, “I think my goal is to make sure all women of color have equal pay, and all women have equal pay.
“The only way to do that is to have those conversations, to talk numbers with your co-stars.”
In 2018, Octavia teamed up with Jessica Chastain to push for equal pay on an unnamed Netflix project.
