Now, to correct the indiscretion, it would take around €1 million to install bike racks on all 32 trains.
What they will ultimately look like is not yet entirely clear. One of the managers of Skoda Vagonka presented to the high authorities two options for bicycle holders – vertical and horizontal.
It is important for cyclists to comfortably enter the carriage with their bicycle and place their two-wheeled horse. For other passengers, it is important that bicycles do not create inconvenience for them and do not block the passage.
So far we have settled on the option that 12 bicycle racks will be installed in each train – 6 in each head car. Is it a lot or a little? Of course, this is not enough for a cycling club to go out into nature. For the winter, when the bikes are laid up, this is quite enough.
In the meantime, interested parties are discussing technical problems. In all this, it is necessary to comply with passenger safety standards.
An additional bureaucratic problem: once bicycle racks are installed on the train, each train will once more have to undergo full certification procedures in accordance with current regulations. So this will still cause headaches for the responsible structures.
The decision on what bike holders should be like can be made within 2-3 months. After which the gradual installation will begin. It is currently assumed that the costs of installing bicycle racks on trains can be financed from European Union funds.
