New Draft Royal Decree for Contribution from Occupants of Reception Centers: All You Need to Know

The Council of Ministers approved on Friday a draft royal decree relating to the contribution requested from the occupants of a reception center who benefit from professional income and other categories of income, announced the Secretary of State for Asylum and Protection. migration Nicole de Moor in a press release. This approval confirms an announcement made on Thursday.

The reception law stipulates that an occupant of a reception center must contribute to material assistance if he or she has professional income. However, the current royal decree of 2011 and its instruction of 2013 are inadequate in terms of control and sanction. The law was therefore not put into practice. In collaboration with a working group made up of representatives of certain reception centers and reception partners (Rode Kruis and Red Cross), a new draft royal decree was drawn up, she explains. The new royal decree will replace the 2011 royal decree.

Concretely, the contribution system will be applied uniformly throughout the reception network and to all working residents. It encourages residents to declare their employment and contribute voluntarily, without being an obstacle to activation.

The contribution will focus on the cost of housing. No contribution will be requested below 265 euros per month. For asylum seekers who earn between 265 and 1,000 euros net per month, a contribution of 35% will be requested, or up to 257.25 euros. Above 1,500 euros per month, the contribution will amount to 50% of the salary.

Revenue from the measure is estimated at 2.3 million euros per month, or 28 million per year.
