The double reigning Formula Vee Brazil champion achieves another clear round by winning the two races of the 5th round of the championship and climbed to third place among the drivers with the most victories in the competition.
The French pilot Laurent Guerinaud dominated the 5th round of the Formula Vee Brazil Championship by winning the two races contested at Interlagos (Brazil) last weekend (16-17/07).
Having lost the championship lead following a very controversial penalty in the previous round, he regained important points in search of his third title in the category, and also climbed to third place in the historic classification of drivers with the most victories in this competition.
During the first test, on Saturday, the pilot Motul/Rokim got off to a bad start and had a difficult start, before going on the attack halfway through the race. He then made a superb comeback to finally take the lead and win with a lead of more than four seconds.
The second race, on Sunday, is even more contested, with five drivers taking turns in first place. Fourth on the starting grid, Guerinaud managed to make his way between his adversaries and join in the fight for victory. In the final laps, the double reigning champion took the lead, managed to escape and finally won his sixth victory in ten races this year.
Author of the fastest lap in the race, he also improved his personal best and won the best time of the season at Interlagos.
Objective: a third title in three years
Thanks to this result, Laurent is getting closer to the championship leader, Lucas Veloso, who had taken advantage of the Frenchman’s setbacks in the previous rounds to take the lead in the standings.
Indeed, following a dazzling start to the season, with four victories in four races, Laurent then experienced mechanical problems, a retirement, and above all, a very controversial downgrading which cost him the lead in the championship during the fourth round.
With this weekend’s results, the French reduced the gap between him and Lucas Veloso from 18 to 10 points. ” I think you might say that it was one of the most contested stages since my debut in Formula Vee says Guerinaud. ” And a nice recovery for the championship! »
“As all the cars are equal, the fights are intense, and to win, you not only have to give your all on the track, but also beforehand, work tirelessly to find all the areas for improvement, whether in terms of driving or car settings. I would also like to thank the entire Formula Vee team for this enormous collective work. “, he adds. The pilot also thanks his partners Motul, Rokim Automobile, DKDrones and Nobile.
« We leave Interlagos with the satisfaction of a job well done, and of having already recovered on the asphalt a good part of the points which were unfairly taken away from us off the track,” concluded the French driver. “The triple crown remains the objective for 2022! »
With these two victories, Guerinaud now has 13 in official competitions for the championship. He is third on the list of drivers with the most victories in the history of the competition, since the takeover of the FVee in Brazil in 2011. Ahead of him are Heitor Nogueira, with 22 victories, and João Pedro Maia and Rodrigo Rosset, both with 14.
Thus, the Frenchman is one triumph away from becoming the second most successful driver in the history of the Formula Vee Brazil championship. ” Without a doubt, this is a very important stage for me. I only started racing in Formula Vee in 2020, so it’s a huge satisfaction to be among the biggest winners in such a short time. “, did he declare.
The next round of the Championship will take place from September 2 to 4back to Interlagos.
