Following in the footsteps of Marco Polostarring Stanley and Max Johnson, premieres at Curzon Mayfair on Wednesday 3 July.

The documentary follows their road trip in 2023 to the Forbidden City in Beijing, the end of the Silk Road. The 2,500-mile journey took them through some of the most beautiful places on earth.

Stanley said: “The Silk Road took 62 years to complete and my two late co-conspirators, Michael and Tim, wanted to be a part of it.

I will never forget that I can pick up where I left off more than sixty years ago and I can complete this journey with my son by my side.

But as much as this trip meant a lot to me personally, there was a bigger picture. The project provides an opportunity to showcase the importance of travel, multiculturalism and the English language as unifying forces that transcend national borders and connect us all.

Max Johnson added: “By tracing Marco’s historical journey, we hope that China and Europe can and will be able to build bridges of mutual understanding, cultural exchange and lasting cooperation.”

The 90-minute documentary is supported by Global Education Du (GEDU) and the language program English Path. Mike Summerfield, Executive Director of English Path, said: “This work is an example of how language can connect cultures and break down barriers. We change lives in 12 countries through education, and we are very proud to support Stanley and Max on their extraordinary journey.”

Dale Templar, managing director of One Tribe TV, told attendees: “At a time when the world is facing many challenges Following in the footsteps of Marco Polo An outstanding example of international film collaboration.

His Excellency Zheng Zeguang, Ambassador of China to the UK, expressed his satisfaction with the close cooperation between China and the UK at all levels in the planning and implementation of the plan. Ambassador Zheng said: “This is indeed a great initiative and deserves everyone’s support. Mr. Johnson’s journey, like the story of Marco Polo, will help the British people understand the real China.”
