New Details In Derek Chauvin Prison Knife Attack: Black Lives Matter Connection and Attempted Murder Accusation

After the knife attack on the former police officer, who was sentenced to a long prison sentence for the murder of African-American George Floyd, new details regarding the crime are becoming known. According to prosecutors on Friday, the attacker stabbed Derek Chauvin 22 times with some type of knife in the prison library. The crime took place a week ago in a prison in Tucson, Arizona. The public prosecutor’s office accuses the attacker of attempted murder.

The 52-year-old told prison guards that he would have killed Chauvin if he had not been stopped, a court document says. He planned the crime for regarding a month. He later stated that he had no intention to kill. According to the court document, the attacker also made a connection to the Black Lives Matter movement in his statements.

In May 2020, George Floyd died in a brutal police operation in Minneapolis. Videos documented how police officers pushed the unarmed man to the ground. White officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for a good nine minutes while Floyd pleaded to let him breathe. The case led to nationwide protests once morest police violence and racism. Chauvin was later sentenced to more than two decades in prison for murder.
