Several dozen associations, including Viruswaanzin, Vecht Voor Vrijheid (Fight for Freedom), The Human Side and Belgians for Freedom, are calling for demonstrations this Sunday once morest the health measures imposed to limit the spread of the coronavirus. The organizers invite “all those who think that something is wrong” to join the movement, they indicate Friday in a statement, specifying that it is regarding a “peaceful gathering”.
“We are organizing a big demonstration on Sunday for constitutional freedoms and human rights. Under the banner of Ensemble pour la Liberté, we denounce the restrictions on freedoms which have become unjustifiable while no structural solution has emerged, in a year and a half, for the health care sector, “write the organizers.
According to them, the current measures lead to the polarization of society, dividing the citizens into two classes. The organizers, who accuse the government of undermining fundamental rights, demand the abolition of the Covid Safe Ticket and the inclusion of a greater diversity of points of view within the GEMS, the scientific committee which advises the government in the management of the health crisis. “Politics must unite, not divide,” they add.
The start of the event is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the Gare du Nord in Brussels.
It is not yet known how many people will take part. The police will supervise the procession, she assured Friday.
