Closures, nothing more, nothing less. This is the threat that weighed on independent crèches, which represent 30% of early childhood care in the Wallonia-Brussels federation, since a ruling handed down by the Council of State last June. Requested by the Federation of reception environments (Femape), which represents part of the independent sector, the Council of State ruled in favor of the ONE and its reform of reception environments (Milac) which obliged directors and directors of independent nurseries to give up practicing as a natural person and to no longer be able to practice with workers under independent status.

For the sector, these measures were simply financially untenable because they involved additional tax and social costs which would have required a considerable increase in the daily rate charged to parents. Many nursery managers therefore saw no other solution than a closure of the institution that they had often founded for years.
