This is good news for cyclists! The regional preliminary draft of “cyclostrade de la Dyle”, between Wavre and Court-Saint-Etienne is taking shape. This sort of highway for cyclists will pass through the (future) new multimodal station at Ottignies.
This clean soft mobility site will be 4 meters wide. It will be developed gradually, in phases, to reach 9 km long. It will cost around 40 million euros.
For Pierre Francis, director of the Territorial and Environmental Development Service of Walloon Brabant, this cyclostrade will be secure and adapted in particular to Speed pedelecthese registered and fast electric bikes, which can reach a speed of 45 km/h.
Along the railway line
“The idea is to have a route that runs along the railway line“, explains Pierre Francis. “The route connects Wavre and Court-Saint-Etienne station, reconnecting with Ravel which leads to Nivelles. We will therefore start at the Route Provinciale, to go along the platform of Limal station. It will then go up to the Samaya real estate project (Ottignies), at the Limelette bridge, then join the Ottignies station. The route then continues on the station path, to connect to Ravel in Court-Saint-Etienne.
40 million euros
The Walloon Region has delegated project management to the Province of Walloon Brabant, for the completion of the project. THE Mobility and Infrastructure Plan for all provides an envelope of 250 million euros for active modes. A large part is allocated to cyclostrades and Walloniae. Here, expenses should be around 40 million euros. “They will be relatively reasonable because we will have a 9 km route also including the construction of a large engineering structure. This work will be necessary, but it may be done later“, explains Militza Zamurovic, general inspector at SPW Mobility and Infrastructure. The timing of the project is detailed by Pierre Francis in the attached interview.
