New Currency Rules in Oman: Central Bank Discontinuing Certain Notes

Muscat: The Central Bank of Oman has announced that it will discontinue the use of some current notes in Oman. The new decision will come into effect after a period of 360 days from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.

Any use of such notes after the Act comes into force will be considered a violation of the Act. It has been decided to end the use of certain denominations of currencies issued by the Central Bank of Oman prior to 2020. Officials clarified that those who have such notes should exchange them.

These are the currencies that will be discontinued

1. 50, 20, 10 and 5 riyals issued in November 2000
2. 1 riyal issued in 2005
3. 20 riyals issued in 2010
4. 50, 10 and 5 Riyals issued by the Central Bank of Oman in 2011
5. 50, 10 and 5 riyals issued in 2012.

6.1 Riyal issued in 2015
7. 50 Riyals paid in 2019
8 Also, in November 1995, Central Bank of Oman issued 1 Riyal, 500 Baisa, 200 Baisa and 100 Baisa currency notes to reduce usage.

Sayyid Di Yassin bin Haitham Al Saeed, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of Oman met with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain. Both of them met in Manama. At the meeting held at Al Safriya Palace in Manama, the two leaders discussed the country’s development activities. Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, Ruler of Oman, conveyed the greetings of Sayyed Yassin bin Haitham Al Said to Bahrain’s King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa.
