136. It is now the number of points that are among the essentials to be checked during the technical control of a vehicle. Discreetly, since this Saturday, May 20, 2023, two new criteria have lengthened this list a little more, reports the consumer association, UFC-Que Choisir.
This is the collection of information relating to the energy consumption of all vehicles put into circulation from January 2021 and verification of the operation of the e-call. And who says additional checks, says more time spent to carry out the entire check, which might well increase the bill a little.
Total fuel or electricity consumption and kilometers traveled
The first audit was introduced following the adoption of Obfcm regulations (On board fuel consumption monitoring) by the European Commission. The controller will realize, thanks to an OBD reader (On board diagnostic), and ratio statement between total fuel or electricity consumption and kilometers traveled since first registration.
The information will then be sent to the administration of the Union Technique de l’Automobile (UTAC), in charge of vehicle approvals in France.
But given the GDPR law (General Data Protection Regulation which governs the processing of personal data on the territory of the European Union), it will be possible for the motorist to oppose their transmission.
The emergency call system via 112
Controllers will therefore also have to pay attention to the proper functioning of the e-call. Since 2019, all new vehicles have been equipped with this emergency call system via 112. It will be checked during the first technical inspection, four years following the purchase of a new vehicle.
Since 2018, in order to protect motorists and consumers, technical inspection centers have been subject to new obligations, particularly in terms of displaying prices at the entrance to their establishment.
And since 2020, this has been happening on the government information site prix-controle-technique.gouv.frrecalls the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention (DGCCRF).
This website lists, for all the technical control centers approved by the administration, the price of periodic inspections and counter-inspections of light vehicles and thus allows the consumer to compare them.
Renewed every two years, following the date of the first technical inspection
The technical inspection must be carried out within six months preceding the period of four years from the date of first entry into service of the vehicle. This date appears on the registration certificate.
After this inspection, a periodic technical inspection must be renewed. every two yearsfollowing the date of the first technical inspection carried out by the seller, in the six months preceding the sale of the vehicle to a private individual.
In the event of an inspection by the police, the fact of not having satisfied a technical inspection or a mandatory counter-visit constitutes an infringement of the Highway Code punishable by a fine. fixed fine of 135 euros. The fine can be reduced to 90 euros or increased to 750 euros, depending on the payment deadline.
This violation does not result in no point deletion on the driver’s license. The vehicle may be immobilized by law enforcement until the technical inspection has been carried out. In this case, the police or gendarmerie authorities issue a provisional circulation card allowing the technical inspection to be carried out.
The vehicle can be driven to the pound if it has not undergone the compulsory technical inspections or if the repairs have not been carried out.
