New community association podcast on “e-voting and digital administration”

Vienna (OTS) –

In the new episode of Community Association Podcasts “Official Secrets” explains municipal association president Johannes Pressl his recently made proposal to introduce e-voting. The 2024 National Council election brought another record number of voters with voting cards. A total of 1.44 million voting cards were requested, which corresponds to a share of 22.3 percent. Compared to the last election five years ago, 35 percent more voting cards were issued this time. As the number of voting cards increases, so does the effort in municipalities. An estimate by the Association of Municipalities assumes 100,000 working hours in local administrations just for postal voting.

Municipal Association President Pressl wants to rethink the system and use the experience from the last election to openly discuss digital voting or e-voting and in this context refers to the referendum, where up to 80 percent of the signatures are already submitted digitally. In the new podcast episode of “Official Secrets”, President Pressl wants to use the e-voting initiative to initiate an innovative digitalization discussion. Pressl is not deterred by knee-jerk “saying no” due to security concerns: “We have to advance digital administration and finally pick up the pace. ID-Austria is an important step and a key for many other digital processes in our country.” He also asks the question of how a village can generally develop and what opportunities digitalization could offer. Finally, he invites everyone to send him ideas for more digitalization and digital pilot projects.
