From this Saturday, May 20, two new criteria have been added to the list of technical inspection checkpoints. And it will surely cost you more when paying the mechanic.

The technical control evolved. Starting from Saturday, May 20, two new checkpoints are added to the list.

Two new checkpoints…

The first criterion relates to the OBFCM regulations (On Board Fuel Consumption Monitoring), in other words, the collection of information relating to the energy consumption of vehicles put into circulation since January 2021. Concretely, this is a calculation to know the ratio between the total consumption of fuel or electricity, and the kilometers traveled since registration.

For the time being, this point only concerns vehicles that are checked annually, such as taxis and ambulances. Individuals will carry out this verification from 2025 therefore, with the first passage of 4 years. The owners of the vehicles can completely refuse to transmit the information requested, within the framework of the RGPD (general regulation on the protection of data).

The second checkpoint relates to theeCall, in other words the emergency call system which is made via 112, the European emergency call number. The technical examination must therefore verify the presence and proper functioning of this functionality, which has been fitted to new vehicles since 2019. Again, this checkpoint will concern individuals only from their first passage of 4 years.

…and a rising price

Whether or not you accept this new test, it will surely cost more when paying the mechanic. The latter will have to explain this new regulation, which may take a few minutes. And it will show on the bill at the end.

Obviously, there is an additional cost for the technical control centers to do this collection, in terms of customer explanation, because if you add even two minutes for a technical control which lasts between 30 and 45 minutes , it definitely has an impact underlines Geoffrey Michalak, technical and training director within the SGS group.

The note will not increase enormously but it can still be felt. There will probably be price increasesbut not 15 to 20%, it will be really marginal” he adds to L’Union.

With the addition of these two new criteria, the technical inspection now amounts to 136 verification points.
