This Friday was a busy day for the mayor of Charleroi Paul Magnette and his team. One of the highly anticipated inaugurations is that of the new bus station and the “Palais” metro station.
The site, whose work amounting to 4.2 million euros, has been completed and offers a completely new configuration. The project has three different components. The first concerns the creation of the new, more modern bus station with digital screens allowing bus departures to be displayed. Large format screens are also installed to communicate bus and metro departure times. This allows multimodal information. From a practical point of view, the station is intended to be more comfortable for drivers who will be able to maneuver without too much difficulty. The station is equipped with a single platform with 3 stops. Travelers will only have to choose the bus that corresponds to their line. Drivers will have the choice between two entries. One allows you to come and sit at the boarding platform and the other allows drivers to come and position themselves at one of the 5 rest areas. Ultimately, these areas will be equipped with charging systems for electric buses.
The second part concerns the modernization of the metro station with the improvement of access for people with reduced mobility and the visually impaired, notably with the installation of two elevators. The entrance to the station features a work by artist Adrien Lucca.
The third part concerns electrical work with the replacement of the general low-voltage panel and the creation of a new transformer station which will power the electric buses.
