As early as next month, the weekday section of the Gyeongbu Expressway’s bus lane will be expanded from Yangjae Interchange to Anseong Interchange. On the other hand, the bus-only lane on Yeongdong Expressway, which had been operating only on weekends, will disappear.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the National Police Agency announced on the 6th that they will administratively notify the revised ‘Expressway Bus Lane’ notice by the 27th. The government plans to finalize the revision of the notice and adjust bus-only lanes as early as next month following going through related procedures, including collecting opinions, during this period.

Currently, the Gyeongbu Expressway bus lane is operated in the Yangjae Interchange – Osan Interchange (39.7km) section from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, and in the Yangjae Interchange – Shintanjin Interchange (134.1km) section from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and public holidays. do. This time, the government plans to extend the point where bus-only lanes are lifted on weekdays by 16.3km from Osan Interchange to Anseong Interchange, making a total section of 56km (Yangjae Interchange to Anseong Interchange). In addition, it was decided to abolish the Yeongdong Expressway bus-only lane that had been operating in the section between Singal Junction and Hobeop Junction (26.9km) from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and public holidays.

In particular, for the Gyeongbu Expressway, where bus-only lanes are extended, the government decided not to crack down on violations immediately following the change, but to provide a three-month guidance period. Even following all revisions to the notice are completed, work such as attaching guide signs and repainting lanes on the highway is required, so the bus lane adjustment is expected to be completed as early as next month or May.

An official from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said, “Recently, the number of buses commuting to and from southern Gyeonggi Province, Sejong, and Chungcheong has increased, and there have been many indications that the bus-only lane section of the Gyeongbu Expressway should be expanded to solve this problem.” “On the other hand, the bus-only lane on the Yeongdong Expressway is congested with regular lanes.” “This is being reflected as complaints continue to be raised that it is aggravating,” he said. In the meantime, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the National Police Agency are said to have formed this amendment together with the Korea Expressway Corporation, bus organizations, and civic groups, and based on the status of bus traffic and civil complaints. The government plans to hold regular public-private consultation meetings in the future to periodically analyze the effects of bus lanes and find reasonable operation plans.
