New Bus Connections in Linz: Relieving Traffic and Expanding Public Transport

2023-07-11 09:04:26

In the most recent public transport advisory board, new bus connections decided for Linz. The two new trolleybus routes, 47 and 48, are intended to help relieve the burden on the country road and the local transport hub at the main station. In addition, the new district bus lines 150 were on the Pöstlingberg and 108 in that industrial area fixed in the Lunzer Straße.

According to the city, the urban areas of Hagen, new residential buildings along the state road to the Pöstlingberg and especially the building development on the city limits in Gramastetten and Puchenau make an additional bus line (150) sensible.

Bus 150 is to run at 30-minute intervals (mainly at rush hour) alternately to the Pöstlingbergbahn and directly from the Bergbahnhof (Landgutstraße) to the Pöstlingberg.

According to the city of Linz, in addition to the existing line 18, companies in the Kleinmünchen district and near voestalpine have expressed their desire for a direct connection from the Simonystrasse stop to Lunzerstrasse. This is to be done by another district line (108). This should run at 30 or 60 minute intervals as required and include six stops, five of which are on the Voestareal and one in the Simonystraße area.

16 new buses

16 new trolleybuses are required for the future operation of the two trolleybus lines. The Ministry for Climate Protection has already promised Linz AG Linien a subsidy of almost nine million euros for this.

In principle, it was agreed that the state of Upper Austria would contribute 40 percent to the planning and infrastructure of the Linz trolleybus axis, namely with regard to the electrical systems, bus stops, signaling technology, machines, workshops, parking facilities and project management (however, without the acquisition costs of the trolleybus buses) involved.

“Points set in the direction of the traffic turnaround”

“The expansion of public transport in Linz has absolute priority over motorized private transport. The decisions taken by the local public transport advisory board to promote environmentally friendly local transport show our priorities in this direction. There is also agreement in the city government on the underlying objectives,” emphasizes Linz Mayor Klaus Luger (SPÖ).

“With the new trolleybus routes 47/48 and the new district bus routes to Pöstlingberg and Lunzer Straße, the city is setting the course further towards the traffic turnaround. The expansion of public transport is the biggest lever so that people can do without their own car – and get to their destination easily, comfortably and safely,” says Linz mobility officer Martin Hajart (ÖVP).

“The plans for the new O-Bus lines primarily serve to develop the booming east of Linz with the important economic location of the harbor district and its jobs. With the district lines on the Pöstlingberg, where an expansion will benefit the residents, and on the Lunzer Straße, the public transport offer in the districts will also be improved,” adds the Linz planning officer City Councilor Dietmar Prammer (SPÖ).
