New Brouck’R Project: Updates, Housing Units, Office Space, and Shops – Latest Developments and Construction Plans

2023-07-31 16:11:00

176 housing units, 129 student accommodation, 10,000 m² of office space and 3,000 m² of shops, this is the new version of the Brouck’R Project. Its first version had been challenged by the Council of State forcing the promoter BPI to review its copy. This new version, which notably removes the raising of the buildings and the hotel, initially planned, has just obtained its permit. The information reported by RTBF implies an imminent restart of the site. “Towards the end of August, we will restart the demolition work which will take another 5 or 6 months, confides Griet Trekels, development director at BPI to our colleagues. And then, once the permit is enforceable and final, we will start construction. It is planned, at this stage, for January 2024. And the site should last 3 years.”

Hotel removed, upper floor cancelled, here is the new project for Place De Brouckère

This timetable does not take into account a potential appeal once morest this new version of the plans. Questioned by the RTBF, Inter environment Brussels assures that “the project is still as bad as at the beginning, except that here they have responded to the criticisms of the Council of State. So the damage to the heritage is less heavy than at the start but the other grievances still hold water. And there are other aspects of the license which for us remain illegal and open to challenge. The association refers here in particular to the principle of demolition and reconstruction which was preferred by the promoter to the renovation of the buildings.
