New blow for Donald Trump: justice inflicted a new setback on him on Tuesday

The latter has already indicated that it expects the documents “immediately”. Richard Neal, the chairman of the committee responsible for taxation in the House (“Ways and Means”) had claimed in 2019 the last six tax declarations of the businessman. Mr. Neal had been opposed to a categorical “niet” from the US Treasury before it gave its approval following Joe Biden became president. Donald Trump then appealed.

But the federal court in Washington DC ruled that “every president takes office knowing that when he leaves, he will be subject to the same laws as all other citizens”. This is why, according to the court, Donald Trump must provide the requested documents. The former tenant of the White House can however still appeal.

It is customary in the United States for presidential candidates to release their tax returns. But Donald Trump has always refused to comply, both during his campaign and during his mandate.
