New Binter Flight Inaugurates Enhanced Air Connectivity for Essaouira

Essaouira – A flight of the Spanish airline “Binter” from Las Palmas (Canary Islands) landed on Saturday at Essaouira-Mogador international airport, marking the inauguration of a new service that strengthens connections flights from the Cité des Alizés with the rest of the world.

When it landed on the tarmac of Essaouira-Mogador international airport, the Binter Airlines plane was welcomed as tradition dictates, at the “Water Salute” Jets d’eau.

On this occasion, a welcome ceremony was organized in honor of the passengers, in the presence in particular of airport officials, representatives of the Moroccan National Tourist Office, the Provincial Council of Tourism (CPT) of Essaouira, as well as local authorities.

This new air service, which will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening Essaouira’s air connectivity and further promoting its tourist attractiveness, will be provided by two direct weekly flights (Saturday and Tuesday).

“We are very happy with the inauguration of the first direct flight between Essaouira and the Canary Islands, which confirms once once more the importance of the Spanish clientele visiting the Cité des Alizés”, welcomed the provincial delegate of the tourism in Essaouira, Younes Dbibirha, in a statement to MAP.

Mr. Dbibirha noted that the Spanish market represents a very large clientele in terms of volume of activities for the tourist sector in Essaouira, recalling that during the first five months of the current year, overnight stays by tourists from Spain experienced an increase of more than 45% compared to the volume of overnight stays generated by the Spanish market in 2019.

For his part, the President of the Provincial Council of Tourism (CPT) of Essaouira, Mr. Redwane Khanne, indicated that this new air link, fruit of the efforts made by the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), the Provincial Council of Tourism (CPT) of Essaouira and the local authorities, will give a new impetus to the tourist positioning of the province.

While welcoming the “exceptional” tourism performance of Essaouira, which exceeded the figures of 2019, the reference year, Mr. Khanne said he was confident that the tourism sector “will maintain this momentum thanks to the federation of efforts of all stakeholders”.

For their part, many passengers expressed their joy at being able to visit Essaouira thanks to the inauguration of this new airline, highlighting the quality of the welcome and the tireless efforts carried out at Essaouira-Mogador airport in terms of comfort and fluidity.

Essaouira-Mogador airport recorded during the first 5 months of the current year, some 70,500 passengers, an increase of 55% compared to the same period of 2019, according to data from the National Office of Airports ( ONDA).

This airport is currently connected to 6 international destinations, namely: Marseille, Charleroi-Brussels, Paris Orly, Bordeaux, Madrid, and London Stansted. These airlines are served by the companies “Binter”, “Ryanair”, “Transavia” and “EasyJet”.

It should be noted that air traffic at this airport platform is experiencing significant dynamics at the start of the summer season.
