Forty-six more Syrian refugees have arrived in Italy from Beirut, the community of Sant’Egidio has announced. Syrians who have been in camps in Lebanon’s Aqar region, Bekaa Valley and the suburbs of Beirut for a long time, arrived in Italy on the morning of Wednesday, October 25, via the Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Fiumicino.
These Syrian refugees were able to reach Europe while the situation in Lebanon worsened in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. On the basis of the agreement made by Santegedio organization and other church communities and organizations with the Ministry of Interior and Foreign Affairs in Italy, the way for them to reach Italy through humanitarian corridors was prepared.
After February 2016, 2,700 people were brought to Italy under the supervision of the Santegidio organization. 6,500 people have reached Europe through humanitarian corridors during this period.
It has been decided to deploy the refugees who arrived last day in seven regions of Italy. The organization stated that they will be provided with education including language, training to integrate into the society, and access to jobs following receiving official documents as refugees.
