The Iranian Revolutionary Court issued a new ruling against prominent human rights activist Narges Mohammadi, serving 15 months in prison and cleaning uninhabited areas of garbage.
Nelly stated that the Revolutionary Court had also sentenced his client to collect garbage from uninhabited areas in cities in coordination with the municipality of a city and under the supervision of security in this municipality, 4 hours a day, for a period of 3 months, adding that Mohammadi refused to attend the court session, and the court issued its ruling in absentia. She was informed of the verdict on Sunday, according to Iranian opposition media outlets broadcasting from exile.
In early 2022, a court in Iran sentenced Mohammadi, who had been detained since November 16, to eight years in prison and received 70 lashes, knowing that she is the spokesperson for the Center for the Defense of Human Rights, founded by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shirin Ebadi, who has been repeatedly arrested in recent years.
Mohammadi was released in October 2020 after five years in prison, and was again sentenced in May 2021 to 80 lashes and 30 months in prison for being convicted of “propaganda against the Iranian political system”, “defamation” and “rebellion” against the prison authority. The activist is also accused of publishing a statement against the death penalty and organizing a sit-in while she was in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison.
