The rumor mill regarding an imminent Apple product launch is once once more bubbling: This time it’s regarding the successor to the Apple Pencil 2, which was launched in 2018 together with the iPad Pro. Like “9to5Mac” reported, references to support for a new generation of the Apple Pencil were found in the source code of the recently released operating system version iOS 17.4 (“Swiss IT Magazine” reported). Specifically, the editorial team discovered a Pencil Kit API in the code that developers can use to optimize their apps for the new input device. Apart from the switch to the USB-C interface last year, the accessories have not been revised since the second version was introduced in 2018.
Leakers also speculate that the new pen will be introduced as part of the market launch of the next generation of iPad Pro with the current M3 processor.
