New affordable housing complex under construction in Miami-Dade

Miami-Dade County is paving the way for a vital new development designed to help seniors find affordable housing.

The next phase of Quail Roost Station will begin on August 14, according to the official announcement from Miami-Dade County.

The development aims to improve the community by incorporating housing that is well integrated with public transportation options.

The renovated Quail Roost Station will feature 124 units specifically for seniors, including 36 studios, 72 one-bedroom units and 16 two-bedroom units.

The initiative is a collaborative attempt to revitalize the community through a six-phase project. The current phase is due to be completed by the end of 2024, with the third phase to begin in 2025.

Affordability is key in the new phase. Why? Units are allocated to various income levels, with 20 units going to those earning 30% or less of the area median income (AMI), 44 to people earning 60% or less of AMI, and 60 homes for those earning 70% or less of AMI.

Quail Roost Station residents can expect a variety of amenities. Development plans include a community room, business center, fitness center and on-site laundry facilities.

In addition to physical amenities, the project will also offer adult literacy classes, employment assistance, and financial management program classes.

Contemporary design and thoughtful facilities are geared towards creating an environment that supports the wellbeing and personal growth of its senior residents.

Miami-Dade County provided a significant financial contribution to the project with a $4.96 million grant from Surtax funds.

This highlights the importance of the initiative in community development and the county’s commitment to supporting its senior population.
