New 1Password tool lets you test possible future features

The famous password manager 1Password announced yesterday the Labs a tool that gives users the possibility to test possible future features before everyone else — even before those who have any of the beta versions of the company’s applications on their devices.

According to 1Password, Labs was born out of the need to receive feedback on new ideas — many of them suggested by users themselves — before effectively turning them into features in stable versions.

Labs allows us to share early prototypes and new product explorations with all 1Password customers so that [eles possam] tell us whether we should continue working on them.

According to the company, the difference between Labs and the traditional test versions of the app is that the beta versions serve mainly to obtain technical reports regarding features that the company is already certain will be released — they basically serve to fix bugs and other problems.

Labs, in turn, serves for 1Password to measure users’ interest in potential innovations before investing in an implementation. If “approved”, these features will be made available in beta versions to be polished and later released in the stable version.

The experimental features, according to the company, will not be available for more than a few months. During this time, the app’s team will collect user opinions through forms and communities — which will provide feedback on whether or not to invest in each of the features.

To try out a new feature, users simply go to the new Labs section (in app settings on both iOS and macOS) and individually enable each new feature they want to test.

1Password is free to download. In order to have access to all the app’s features, however, you must subscribe to it. US$3 monthly (individual version) or US$5 monthly (with sharing for up to five people). In the App Store, the manager exits by BRL 20 per month or BRL 178 per year.
