About the episode
The Netherlands has been collaborating economically with other countries in the European Union since the early 1950s. Starting with the European Coal and Steel Community, which later merged into what we now know as the European Union. Europe has had an influence on our country and on how we live and work for more than 70 years, with the European Parliament and the European Commission at the helm. And this influence runs deep. The labels on your pack of soup, your charger, the bus you take to work: you name it, there are European directives, legislation or subsidies behind it.
With the European elections in sight, Europe reporter Geert Jan Hahn investigates to what extent Europe is now an integral part of our society. Are we already more European than Dutch? What influence do we have on our daily lives in the Netherlands with our European vote? And if something is not arranged properly, should I be angry with The Hague, or with Brussels?
