At the end of last month, we talked regarding a iPhone original of 4GB sealed that might be auctioned for up to $100,000, handily breaking the previous record of $63,000. Well, it turns out that the device was finally sold, and for an amount that made that initial prediction seem a bit… conservative.
According to a casa de leilões by LCG Auctionsthe iPhone in question was purchased for no less than US$190.372,80 (approximately R$920,000) — almost twice the amount originally estimated. The purchase was finalized yesterday, and a total of 28 proposals were made. The initial amount, in turn, was US$10,000.
As we explained earlier, what makes this smartphone so special is the fact that the 4GB model was only sold for regarding two months by Apple following its launch on June 29, 2007. It cost exactly $500 and was soon replaced by the (much more popular) 8GB iPhone, which gave way to the model with 16GB of storage.
Furthermore, this iPhone was provided by a former Apple engineer who worked on the development of the smartphone, which certainly only added to its aura of exclusivity. According to the auction house, the device is in “exceptional condition” and has “virtually impeccable” packaging, with an intact protective plastic.
iPhone original de 8GB
If you found the price of this model too salty, maybe to be iPhone original of 8GB sealed be more reasonable. Also auctioned by LCG Auctions this Sunday for US$53.725,20it was awarded by Phil Martinodirector of the iconic keynote presentation of Apple’s first smartphone, during the 2007 Macworld Expo.
Like the 4GB model, this iPhone was also manufactured in the first months of the model’s life, which helps explain the price for which it was sold. As explained by the auction house, the unit has 12 icons on the box image, while newer models have 13 thanks to the launch of the iTunes app.
This specific model, however, was sold for less than expected by LCG Auctions, which might reach up to US$60,000. Although the packaging has some small marks, it was never opened and the iPhone was therefore never activated.
