Neutrogena skin care products officially announced their continued support for the development of cricket in Indonesia, especially women’s cricket. Neutrogena is the sponsor of the 2024 Kartini Cup tournament.
Neutrogena hopes that the Kartini Cup, which will be held from April 20 to April 29 2024, will not only be a stage for young female athletes to show their abilities, but also an event that can spread the spirit of women’s emancipation in the field of sport.
The Kartini Cup is a women’s cricket tournament held every year on Kartini Day as a form of respect for Raden Ajeng Kartini, a national hero who is remembered for his struggle to initiate the emancipation and empowerment of Indonesian women.
Kenvue Indonesia’s Skin Health Lead Zaskia P Setiyasari explained, “By supporting the 2024 Kartini Cup tournament, Neutrogena Indonesia hopes to help provide a platform for young women in Indonesia to break through social boundaries, hone leadership and team work skills, and build self-confidence, both in on and off the cricket field.”
Regarding the emancipation and empowerment of women in sports, cricket has a sweet history which is reflected in the holding of the first Women’s Cricket World Cup which was held in England in 1973 or two years before the Men’s Cricket World Cup was held. It marked an important moment in cricket history, when the contributions of female athletes were recognized on the international stage.
Cricket was first introduced to Indonesia by the Dutch in the 19th century. Initially, this sport was played by European communities in Indonesia, especially in big cities such as Jakarta (Batavia), Surabaya and Bandung.

At the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, interest in cricket, especially among young women in Indonesia, began to increase. Several cricket clubs have begun to be active in holding programs to recruit and train female cricket athletes.
In terms of achievements, the Indonesian Women’s National Team has achieved pride as a gold medal winner at the 2023 SEA Games and successfully played in the 2023 U-19 Women’s World Cup. This achievement brought Indonesia to the top 20 in the world.
General Chair of the Indonesian Cricket Association (PCI), Abhiram Singh Yadav said, “Organizing a national level tournament like the Kartini Cup is part of the struggle to bring the Indonesian women’s cricket team to develop their abilities and show their strength. This inspiring journey of female cricket athletes to make Indonesia proud on the international stage can open the door for the next generation to dare to dream and achieve more. “It is not impossible, if one day, Indonesia gives birth to a legendary figure like Rachael Heyhoe-Flint or Mithali Raj.”
By holding this tournament, PCI together with Kenvue, seeks to present a new narrative regarding empowerment, resilience and excellence among young women in Indonesia. (RO/Z-1)
