“The resolution will initially be low, like Nintendo’s first graphics, but it might eventually exceed normal human vision,” said Elon Musk.

The billionaire also clarified that this Neuralink product would be called Blindsight, adding that the resolution would be low at first, as “Nintendo’s first graphics”but that it might exceed normal human vision in the future.

Elon Musk added that ““no monkey has died or been seriously injured by a Neuralink device.”

The new product follows Neuralink’s Telepathy, which allows users to control computers through thought. In January, Elon Musk announced that a patient was recovering well following having a chip implanted in his brain and later clarified that the patient might move the cursor of a computer mouse with his mind.

On Thursday (March 21), Neuralink released a video of the patient, who is quadriplegic, playing chess using only mind control.

The US drug regulator, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), approved the company’s first trial in May last year.

The procedure involves inserting 64 flexible wires into a part of the brain that controls movement intention.

The wires are so fine that a robot must implant them. The wires then allow the implant to record and transmit brain signals to an app, which then decodes how the person decides to move.

The implant is powered by a battery that can be recharged wirelessly.
