Like every month, the Provincial Directorate of Statistics and Censuses of Neuquén issued its report on the Consumer Price Index (CPI). On this occasion, the data revealed that in the month of August, products and services in the province increased on average 10.6%, being the highest of the year and exceeding the double-digit barrier in relation to July when it closed at 7.4%.
As reported by the provincial entity, The CPI accumulated a variation of 82.1% so far in 2023.
It was also detailed that the division that saw the greatest increase in the month was Health with 15.1%. An inflationary process linked to increases in medications and dental consultations.
One step below are the products of the categories «Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco». In these cases the upward variation reached 14.8% and is mainly linked to increases in cigarettes, beer and cider.
The division that had the greatest contribution to the general level of inflation in August was «Food and non-alcoholic beverages». These categories contributed with an incidence of 2.92 pp
The August CPI is the worst of 2023 following those reported in April (8.9%) and March (7.6%) and July (7.4%).
The number for the same month but in Río Negro was higher than in Neuquén, with 12.03% with a cumulative of 80.96% in eight months.
Neuquén inflation climbed to 10.6%: the third worst CPI since convertibility
The convertibility of the year 2002 constituted a before and following in the history of inflation records.
It was precisely in that period in which the worst inflation index was reported in the province with the 11.16% in April.
In the same year, but in June, inflation reached 10.97% in Neuquén. For this reason, the 10.6% reported this Wednesdayfor the period August 2023, is third on the historical list.
It is followed by the CPI for September 2018, when an increase of 9.81% was recorded in prices in Neuquén.
