Neuchâtel Xamax’s Strong Performance Falls Short Against Young Boys in Swiss Football Cup: A Promising Hope for the Future

Neuchâtel Xamax did not achieve the feat on Friday evening at the Maladière stadium despite a very good performance. In front of more than 9,600 spectators, Uli Forte’s men were beaten by Young Boys 1-0 in the round of 16 of the Swiss Football Cup.

This match will leave the Xamaxians with some regrets. They were indeed remarkable in their commitment and discipline throughout the match… except in the 91st minute of play, when the two teams were playing 10 once morest 10, Benito and Bakayoko then receiving treatment. Ganvoula then took advantage of an inattention on the part of the defense to score the only goal of the match.

It must be said that the Xamaxiens had previously created several scoring chances in this meeting, without however finding the net. This was particularly the case in the 9th minute when Fatkic, alone in the sixteen meters facing the Bernese goalkeeper, failed to target his delivery.

Frustration might be seen on the faces of the players when they returned to the locker room, like goalkeeper Theo Guivarch. The latter did not try to hide his disappointment.

However, this performance also brings hope. In any case, this is the opinion of defender Sead Hajrovic. The latter is perfectly aware that the opponent was of a much higher caliber than those faced during the Challenge League championship.

We understand that Xamax has nothing to be ashamed of for this defeat. Eliminated from the Cup, the “red and black” will be able to concentrate their efforts on the championship. Next match, Friday September 22 at Wil. /jam-nba
